{"id":2767,"date":"2008-03-25T19:55:13","date_gmt":"2008-03-26T00:55:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/?p=2767"},"modified":"2016-05-31T19:58:31","modified_gmt":"2016-06-01T00:58:31","slug":"fatwa-in-tribal-pakistan-declares-taliban-out-of-islam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/?p=2767","title":{"rendered":"Fatwa in Tribal Pakistan Declares Taliban \u201cOut of Islam\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Andrew McGregor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>March 25, 2008<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A new <em>fatwa<\/em> (religious ruling) issued in the Pashtun Darra Adam Khel region of Pakistan\u2019s North-West Frontier Province declares the Taliban to be \u201cout of Islam\u201d as a result of their violence, failure to follow Islamic teachings and <em>takfiri<\/em> ideology (the latter referring to the Salafist-jihadi practice of declaring fellow Muslims \u201cinfidels\u201d if they oppose jihadist dogma). According to the <em>fatwa<\/em>\u2019s author, Mufti Zainul Abidin, \u201cThe Taliban leaders consider themselves and their directives as superior to true Islamic principles and directives as ordained by Almighty Allah\u201d (<em>The Natio<\/em>n [Islamabad], March 23). The Mufti invites other members of the <em>ulama<\/em> (scholars of Shari\u2019a law) to denounce the \u201cinhuman and immoral\u201d acts of the Taliban.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Gunsmiths.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2768\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2768\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Gunsmiths.jpg\" alt=\"Gunsmiths\" width=\"790\" height=\"526\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Gunsmiths.jpg 790w, https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Gunsmiths-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Gunsmiths-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.aberfoylesecurity.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Gunsmiths-451x300.jpg 451w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px\" \/><\/a><em><strong>Gunsmiths of Darra Adam Khel<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0The <em>fatwa<\/em> singled out the pronouncements of Mufti Khalid Shah, a Taliban religious leader of dubious credentials who has attacked established Islamic scholars in a series of Taliban-issued CDs. Khalid Shah issued a statement in December 2006 urging attacks on local NGOs \u201cpromoting the agenda of the Jews and Christians\u201d (<em>Dawn<\/em> [Karachi], December 23, 2006). This was followed by an Urdu language <em>fatwa<\/em> pasted at night on the walls of Darra Adam Khel declaring a jihad against the Pakistan government (<em>Daily Times<\/em> [Lahore], May 3, 2007).
